Dua after eating

When: When you have finished eating

For parents & teachers

Teaching this dua

Saying Alhamdulillah after food is the simplest way to show children that every meal is a gift. This dua goes one step further: the food came to me without any power or strength of my own. Talk about the journey your dinner took, from the farmer, the rain and the sun to the shop and the kitchen, and how Allah made it all happen. Teach the first line first and add the rest over a few weeks. Little ones can simply say Alhamdulillah, which is already the heart of it.

By age: Toddlers: "Alhamdulillah". Ages 5 and up: the full dua, one line at a time.

Learned a different version?

You may have learned "Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi at'amana wa saqana wa ja'alana muslimin". Its chain of narrators is graded weak (Sunan Abi Dawud 3850, Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3457), so we teach this one, which is graded hasan (good).
