Thanking someone: Jazakallahu khayran

When: Whenever someone does something kind for you

For parents & teachers

Teaching this dua

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that whoever is done a kindness and says Jazakallahu khayran has given the best of thanks. It turns "thank you" into a dua for the other person. Use it at home all day long, for passing the salt or helping with shoes, and children pick it up quickly. Encourage them to say it to teachers, grandparents and the person who holds the masjid door. When someone says it to your child, teach the easy reply: "Wa iyyakum", and you too.

By age: Ages 3 and up.
