About this page

Printed on the sheet: Quba was the very first mosque built in Islam.

When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ made the hijrah, the journey from Mecca to Madinah, he stopped first at Quba, a village of palm groves on the edge of the city, and a mosque was founded there. That is why Quba is remembered as the first mosque built in Islam. Even after he settled in Madinah, he used to visit Quba every Saturday, walking or riding (Sahih al-Bukhari 1193). Today's bright white building, rebuilt in the 1980s, has four minarets and a cluster of small domes.

Talk about it

  • Quba was the very first masjid. What do you think the first one looked like?
  • How many domes can you count on the roof? How many minarets?

Color tips

Quba is famous for being white, so try a pale sky blue background to make it stand out, with green palms and touches of gold on the minaret tips.
