For parents & teachers
The repeating "-nas" at the end of every ayah makes this surah a favorite with young children: let them shout the "nas" while you say the rest. It also gives a gentle way to talk about the little voice that sometimes tells us to do something unkind: we can ask Allah to keep that whisper away. Learn it alongside Al-Falaq, and make the three protection surahs part of bedtime.
By age: Ages 3 and up: the rhyme makes it easy.
An-Nas means "People", a word that ends every one of its six ayat. It is the last surah of the Qur'an and the partner of Al-Falaq: together they are the two surahs of protection that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ recited, with Al-Ikhlas, every night before sleeping (Sahih al-Bukhari 5017). Tanzil lists it as revealed in Mecca. Its repeating "-nas" rhyme makes it easy and fun to learn.
