About this video
A cheerful sing-along about the five pillars of Islam: the shahadah, the declaration of faith; salah, the five daily prayers; zakat, giving to people in need; sawm, fasting in Ramadan; and Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca. The five pillars come from a well-known hadith of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Sahih al-Bukhari 8). Children remember lists far better as songs, and five is a handy number: one finger for each pillar.
Try this
- Hold up a finger for each pillar as it comes, then try naming them without the music.
- Link each pillar to something your child already knows: the prayer mat, the Ramadan moon, a picture of the Ka'bah.
